COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Capital City Half Marathon Presented by KeyBank will celebrate its 10th Anniversary when a sold out field of 14,000 runners and walkers take part in the annual celebration of the healthy and active lifestyle on May 4, 2013.
“The Capital City Half Marathon has always been about the Celebration and in 2012 we are going to celebrate our runners and walkers and the City of Columbus like never before,” race director David Babner said. “We will have special recognitions for those who have ran all of our previous Cap City events, and we will again present a world-class course that features the City's brand-new Downtown parks and the best neighborhoods.”
The Capital City Half Marathon showcases the city's two signature parks by starting on Front Street near the Scioto Mile and finishing at the Columbus Commons, which hosts the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party, the Michelob Ultra Post-Race Concert featuring SWAGG, a variety of free activities, food vendors and more than 35,000 family and friends. Runners from all 50 states and several nations will participate again in 2013.
The Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party will lead the celebration with “Sparking Wine and Chocolate,” the signature elements of the Capital City Half Marathon, along with other drinks, music and much more. Race participants will enjoy complimentary Yellow Tail Sparkling Wine and Maramor Chocolates. Michelob ULTRA provides a complimentary beer for each participant over 21.
Popular local band SWAGG will headline the Michelob ULTRA Post-Race Concert for the third straight year. SWAGG made history in 2012 when it became the first band to perform at Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion at the Columbus Commons.
The Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party will feature the Columbus Commons Family Fun Zone, including inflatables and free rides on the popular Carousel located on the south end of the Columbus Commons.
The 10th Anniversary of the Capital City Half Marathon will feature four events: the Capital City Half Marathon Presented by KeyBank, Patrón Quarter Marathon, Commit To Be Fit 5K and the Capital Kids Mascot Chase.
“The Capital City Half Marathon's four races provide runners and walkers of all ages and capabilities the opportunity to Celebrate Like A Champion,” Babner said. “The Capital City Quarter Marathon has proven to be very popular and will again provide participants a challenging test that is quickly becoming one of our most popular distances.”
Also returning in 2013 is the Capital City Half Marathon OhioHealth Health & Fitness Expo Party, a one-of-a-kind pre-race experience that includes a VIP Lounge, the Panel of Champions and an appealing lineup of vendors that extends beyond the traditional shoe and apparel companies. The Health & Fitness Expo will be held May 2-3 at Battelle Grand.
